Herding in the snow

I’ve been out herding today with both the dogs. I’m so impressed how well they did considering it’s been weeks since the dogs have been at the sheep.

I was mainly training Sookie in the shedding of the sheep. She was really great at it! Only challenge for me is to keep her in her position as she anticipates and starts walking towards the sheep. But rather have that as a challenge than the shedding 😉 Sookie reacts very well to my “Come” command and understands that she is to be calm when she has shedded the sheep – then the sheep doesn’t scatter but stays in the two groups. Sookie also understands the “look back” very well and can move her attention to the right group of sheep. Yup, she is really cool 😀

As Vini is yet so inexperienced she is mainly training to drive the sheep to me. The sheep are a bit tough and are tamping the ground but they really respect Vini and didn’t do that a single time towards her! Vini seems to have a great talent; she keeps the distance, lies down when she can see she is putting too much pressure on the sheep, not afread of the sheep and she has a self-confidence and is brave!

Jan took some pictures of us – great to have some photos showing how great the dogs did 🙂
